Björkåsen manor is situated in beautiful surroundings in an untarnished landscape of woods and lakes and bountiful wildlife. The Glasfjorden Nature Reserve with miles and miles of hiking trails is in the immediate vicinity. Beaver and elk safaris are on offer. You can read more about the nature reserve on Visit Värmland’s web pages here.
Glafsfjorden is a large and very scenic lake which is very popular with kayak and canoo enthusiasts all over Europe and which also offers some great fishing opportunities. Furthermore, it is possible to reach Glafsfjorden by boat from the sea which makes for a fun travel through Sweden’s sluice system. Great trip – tried & tested by Björkåsen’s owners 👍
There is also a renowned glas blowing museum in Glava in walking distance from the manor.
Glava church from the 1730s is also well worth a visit. It is a typical barock church consisting of a rectangular ship with a three-sided cross section at the end. Towards the east there is a vestry and a tower. The tower spire is from a later date, as is the sidebuilding in front of the southern portal. The lovely ceiling paintings in the main space are made by Hans Georg Schüffner, a church painter from Gothenburg.
Just next to Björkåsen manor are a grocery store, pizzeria and car workshop/hardware store & café. Visitors will find everything they need here and the store owners are super friendly and helpful.
The larger nearby town Arvika of about 15,000 inhabitants offers among other things a fun automobile museum and the cave Gylterudsgrottan. Also, a wide range of services are available there.
